Media reports this week confirmed that Secretary Carson is trying to change HUD’s mission statement to remove critical language that affirms HUD legally mandated role in stopping housing discrimination and inclusion.  The draft mission would also erase language on HUD’s responsibility to create quality, affordable homes for all.

50 years ago, spurred to action by the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Congress passed the Fair Housing Act and gave the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) the responsibility of enforcing anti-discrimination and segregation in housing.

Now, Secretary Carson is following up his actions to undermine fair housing by trying to change HUD’s mission to remove language that states their commitment to ending discrimination and for creating affordable housing for all.

Secretary Carson works for us, the People, and HUD’s mission is his job description.
