We Did It! #100kAgainstRentHikes

We did it! Together with our allies, we collected over 100,000 signatures calling on Congress to REJECT Trump and Carson’s cruel rent hike scheme and instead to fully fund HUD so it can truly serve the millions of insecurely housed and homeless in our country.

But the proposal to drastically raise rents on the very poorest families is still in Congress — so we’re not letting up. This week, over a dozen activists from ONE DC and allies including Bread for the City took our voices directly to Congress. Advocates gathered outside of Rep. Jeb Hensarling’s office to deliver the petition signatures with the message that lawmakers must step up to defend the human right to housing.

The group met face to face with House Financial Services Republican staffer Clinton Jones to make sure our message was heard.  Read more about the petition delivery and meeting in the Washington Post

And on Tuesday, U.S. Representative Charlie Crist submitted our petition to the congressional record on behalf of Maxine Waters!

Thank you for being a part of the team and for raising your voice for justice!
