MEDIA ADVISORY: Housing Advocacy Groups invite press corps to conference in advance of Carson stop

April 12, 2017

MIAMI - The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), Ben Carson, landed yesterday in Miami today as part of his “listening tour” of communities and HUD offices across the country.

On Thursday evening, Secretary Carson is slated to attend an event hosted by the NAACP at Miami-Dade College, North Campus. As a direct result of the nature of this curated and controlled meeting, hundreds of community members and public housing recipients and stakeholders are being refused an opportunity to voice their concerns over the $6 billion proposed budget cuts to HUD — cuts that for Floridians mean losing 9,025 in housing vouchers, over $53 million in public housing funding, and over $132 million in CDBG funding.

Because of this scenario, at 5pm on Thursday evening, housing advocacy groups Miami Workers Center, Right to the City and CarsonWatch invite members of the media to a press conference at the Miami-Dade College, North Campus to call on Ben Carson to condemn the inhumane proposed cuts to the HUD operating budget.
